Here is an awkward anti-success story.

I had a record deal with @sonymusicde.

The song was amazing and had a real orchestra in the background.
Unfortunately, the account manager at the record label who signed us left Sony to do his Doctorate, so my project became an unwanted step-kid project for someone else who didn’t care.

When I was in NY, I thought - well, let’s get Sony NY to pick me up! Go big or go home, but walking into a big record label building is intimidating because I am keen. Because it means so much to me, and I don’t want to look like a wannabe, some weirdo off the street “make me famous” young girl who was often told how talented she is.

If you don’t try, you can’t tell the tale of your success, so I took my courage, pride, and CD and took myself to Sony Records in NYC.

This is the kind of story that you’d hope was the beginning of my international Pop career.
You can imagine me telling it to @jimmyfallon or @trevornoah on a night-time TV show.
Here is how this story went through: nobody gave a shit or let me close to anyone who could be interested. Instead, I hear the answerphone of some record rep saying "no unsolicited tapes," and I left, eventually disheartened with this sense of embarrassment and worthlessness.

You are not alone if you have been going beyond yourself and then shrunk back into your shell. We all do it.

And there comes a time when we get to choose to go beyond our stories. The pain I’ve been trying to avoid here is feeling like a nobody, being ignored and unimportant.
What’s the big deal about being ignored and not important? From where I stand now, the young woman daring to go into Sony to say hello is a TOTAL ROCKSTAR. I admire her, and I celebrate her. I LOVE HER.

Because she dared to go for HER dream.
What dream are you going for today? Win or lose, you do you. Going for what you want is how you create yourself in the world. You don't need Sony to be somebody. YOU ARE.
